(I mean, duh, obviously, but still.)
For the past few months I’ve been working on one of two ideas for zines. One is about watching the feature film Bram Stoker’s Dracula starring Keanu & Winona for the first time since it was released. The other is the origin story I invented for my little cat.
It’s been pretty slow going. Or at least not as fast-going as I’d like, but I do have a day job and a family and pets and aging parents and my own brain and the state of the world to contend with, so I don’t know why I thought I could just bust one out quickly.
This is usually the part where I give up on whatever project I’ve been working on only to start a new one (that also will not wind up completed). Maybe I just like the newness of the idea. Maybe I never believed in the idea as much as I thought I did. Or maybe it’s that I’m worried nobody will like it. Or that they will. It’s probably all of that to one degree or another.
Anyway, I started both of these because I just wanted to try making a zine and learn how to use Affinity & Procreate better, and they seemed like fun ways to do that. And I’m trying to actually push through and get one or both of them done and into the world by the end of summer, let’s say? Sure.
So to keep even a tiny fire lit under me, please enjoy these sneak preview illustrations from my forthcoming (eventually) zines, “Let’s Watch Bram Stoker’s Dracula!” and “Sleazy Cats!”
Here’s good old Dracula:

And here’s my cat’s no-good ex, Duke:

I’m going to focus on Sleazy Cats! first, since it seems like a good summertime tale of cat shenanigans. Plus saying Sleazy Cats! is pretty fun and I’ll get my dopamine where I can, thank you very much.
See ya next time, which is hopefully not too far away.
